Pearland Universal Life Insurance
Universal life is lifelong coverage with a premium you can adjust and a cash value account that earns interest. Before any application, our written quote shows how the policy is put together, what each charge costs and which assumptions keep it active.
How universal life works and who it suits
Universal life runs on two moving pieces. Every month the insurer takes a cost of insurance charge, tied to your age and the net amount at risk, along with administrative fees, out of the cash value. Premiums go in, charges come out, and the balance earns a credited interest rate.
Because of that design, you can pay more or less within limits, something term life does not allow. The trade-off is that the policy lasts only while the account has enough in it. If credited rates fall or charges rise with age, an underfunded policy can lapse in your 70s or 80s, just when you need it.
It often fits clients who want coverage for life at a lower cost than whole life, business owners paying for a buy-sell agreement, or anyone who must leave a fixed sum to a beneficiary for estate costs. If you need coverage only while kids are young or a loan is open, term life usually costs much less, and we will say so.
What we put in front of you
Policy types compared
We lay out guaranteed universal life, current-assumption universal life and indexed universal life side by side. Guaranteed UL carries a no-lapse guarantee but builds little cash value. Indexed UL credits interest tied to a market index, limited by a cap and protected by a floor.
The illustration, read with you
Every illustration has a guaranteed column and a non-guaranteed column. We point to the year the guaranteed column shows the policy running out of value, so you know the worst case and not only the projection.
A funding target that holds up
We calculate the premium needed to carry coverage to age 95, 100 or 121 under conservative rates. We also keep funding under the IRS seven-pay limit so the policy does not become a modified endowment contract, which changes how loans and withdrawals are taxed.
Death benefit option
Option A keeps the benefit level. Option B pays the face amount plus the cash value, which raises the monthly charges. We show both.
Riders priced one by one
Waiver of monthly deductions, accelerated benefits for chronic or terminal illness and overloan protection each appear with their own cost. Nothing is added unless you choose it.
Signs universal life deserves a look
Your term policy ends before the need does
A term life policy expiring at 60 does not cover estate taxes, a dependent adult child or a spouse who relies on your pension. Universal life can carry coverage for life.
You own a business with partners
Buy-sell agreements and key person coverage need a policy that stays in force as long as the business does. A guaranteed UL design is a common fit.
You got a premium increase letter
Many universal life policies sold decades ago assumed interest rates that never held. If your insurer asked for more money, we can order an in-force illustration and show you what it will take to keep the policy alive.
Your income is uneven
Self-employed clients can pay more in strong years and less in lean ones, as long as the cash value covers the monthly charges.
From first call to issued policy
- 1
A phone conversation about the need
We ask what the coverage must do, how long it must last and what you can comfortably pay. That decides which policy type makes sense.
- 2
Written quote and illustration
You get the premium, face amount, guarantee length, riders and surrender charge schedule in writing. We walk through it until each line makes sense.
- 3
Application and underwriting
Underwriting usually includes a short paramedical exam, a prescription history check and a review of medical records. If the insurer offers a different health class than quoted, we rerun the illustration in writing before you accept.
- 4
Delivery and yearly checks
When the policy issues, we confirm it matches what you approved. Each year we compare the annual statement against the original illustration so drift is caught early.
What sets a universal life premium
Universal life pricing comes from a handful of inputs, and every one shows up on the illustration. We list them in your written quote so you can see why one design costs more than another. Nothing gets added after you agree to the numbers.
- Age and health class
- Cost of insurance charges are set by your age at issue and your underwriting class, from preferred plus down to table ratings. Tobacco use moves the price more than almost anything else.
- How long the guarantee runs
- A no-lapse guarantee to age 90 costs noticeably less than one to age 121. We show the difference so you can pick the length that matches the need.
- Face amount and benefit option
- A larger face amount means a larger net amount at risk. Choosing the increasing benefit option keeps that amount high, which raises monthly deductions.
- Product design
- Guaranteed UL is priced for coverage, not growth. Indexed UL depends on caps, participation rates and fees, which the insurer can change after issue.
Questions clients ask about universal life
Something not covered here? (281) 984-5691
What if I miss a premium?
Monthly charges continue to come out of the cash value. If there is enough in the account, coverage continues. If it runs out, the contract allows a grace period to pay before the policy lapses. With a guaranteed design, late or missed payments can also cut the no-lapse guarantee short.
Will the cash value definitely grow?
Only to the extent of the contract's minimum guaranteed interest rate. Anything more is a projection, not a promise. We set funding on conservative rates so a weak crediting year does not endanger the policy.
How do I choose between universal life and whole life?
Whole life has a payment the insurer sets one time and cash value that grows on a contract schedule, so you have little to manage. Universal life trades that fixed structure for flexible payments, and it stays sound only if you keep it funded. We can price both next to each other, and our Whole Life Insurance page covers that option more fully.
Can I take a loan from the policy?
Yes, after cash value has built up. Loans charge interest, and any unpaid amount lowers what your beneficiary receives. If the policy lapses while a loan is open, the gain may become taxable income, so we show the loan's effect in writing before you borrow.
Can clients outside Pearland work with you?
Yes. Our clients include people in Friendswood, Manvel, League City and nearby areas, and both the quote and the review take place by phone.
See the numbers before you decide
We will build a universal life illustration around your goal and explain every column on it. You see the premium, the guarantee and the charges in writing first.
