ServicesRetirement Income Planning

Retirement Income Planning in Pearland

We help you turn savings into a monthly income you can count on, using fixed annuities, income riders and life insurance cash value. Before you sign anything, you get a written comparison of the payout, the fees, the surrender schedule and what happens to the money if you die early.

What retirement income planning covers

Most people reach retirement with a 401(k) or IRA balance and a Social Security estimate, but no clear way to turn the two into a paycheck. Retirement income planning fills that gap. We add up the income you need each month, subtract what Social Security and any pension will pay, and then show insurance-based options that can cover the difference for as long as you live.

The tools are specific. A single premium immediate annuity starts paying within a year. A deferred income annuity, or a fixed indexed annuity with an income rider, builds a contractual withdrawal amount you switch on later. Whole life or universal life coverage can add cash value you borrow against. Each one trades some access to your money for a predictable payment, and we explain that trade line by line.

It is the right call when you are within about ten years of retiring, or already retired and drawing savings down faster than you planned.

What we put together for you

  1. 01

    Income gap worksheet

We list your monthly expenses next to your Social Security estimate at 62, full retirement age and 70, plus any pension. The shortfall is the number every option has to solve.

  2. 02

    Side-by-side annuity quotes

Immediate, deferred and fixed indexed annuities are quoted on one page. You see the monthly payout, single-life versus joint-life amounts and how many years the surrender schedule runs.

  3. 03

    Rider and fee breakdown

Income riders carry an annual charge, usually figured on the income base rather than the cash value. We write out each charge, what it buys and whether a plainer contract would do the same job for less.

  4. 04

    Tax and distribution timing

IRA money is taxed as ordinary income when it comes out, and required minimum distributions start at a set age. We show how a qualified annuity counts toward those distributions. Texas has no state income tax, so the math centers on federal brackets.

  5. 05

    Beneficiary and survivor terms

We confirm who receives any remaining value if you die before the contract has paid out. Then we compare cash refund, installment refund and period-certain options so your spouse is not left short.

Signs it is time to plan your income

  • Savings with no withdrawal plan

You have a balance but no rule for how much to take each month. Guessing too high drains the account; guessing too low means living on less than you could.

  • Fear of an early market drop

A large loss in the first few years of withdrawals does more damage than the same loss later, because you are selling shares while they are down. Fixed and fixed indexed annuities are not exposed to that loss directly.

  • A pension election deadline

Choosing between a single-life and a joint-survivor pension is usually permanent. We show what each choice pays and whether life insurance could protect your spouse instead.

  • An old annuity you do not understand

Many people own a contract bought years ago and cannot say what it pays or what it costs to leave. We read it and explain it in writing.

  • A spouse who would lose income

When one spouse dies, the smaller Social Security check stops. If that would leave a gap, it belongs in the plan.

How the planning works

  1. 1

    First phone conversation

We ask your ages, target retirement date, account types and rough balances. That tells us which products are worth quoting and which are not.

  2. 2

    Gather your statements

You share your latest retirement account statement, your Social Security statement and any pension or annuity paperwork. We work from real numbers, not estimates.

  3. 3

    Written comparison

You get every option on paper: premium, monthly payout, rider charges, surrender schedule, free-withdrawal allowance and beneficiary terms. What is on that page is what you sign. Nothing gets added at the application.

  4. 4

    Review and application

We go over the comparison at your business or by phone, answer every question and complete the application and suitability form only if you choose to move ahead. Each contract states its own free-look period, and we point it out before you sign.

What shapes your income and your costs

An annuity or policy has no separate price tag the way a service does; the deposit you make and the contract terms decide what it pays. We explain in writing how we are paid on any product you pick. These are the factors that move your numbers most.

Age when income starts
The older you are when payments begin, the higher each payment, because the carrier expects to pay for fewer years. Waiting a few years can raise the amount noticeably.
Interest rates at purchase
Payout rates are set by the rate environment on the day the contract is issued. Quotes can change from one month to the next.
Single or joint life
Covering two lives pays less per month than covering one, since payments continue until the second death.
Riders and surrender length
Each income or death benefit rider adds an annual charge. Longer surrender periods often carry better rates but tie up your money longer.
Account type
Money from an IRA is fully taxable as it pays out. Money from a non-qualified account is partly a return of your own principal, which lowers the tax on each check.

Retirement income questions we hear

Do I lose control of my money with an annuity?

It depends on the contract. An immediate annuity converts a lump sum into payments, so that money is no longer accessible. Deferred and fixed indexed annuities usually allow a yearly free withdrawal, often a percentage of the value, with surrender charges on more than that during the surrender period. We show those limits in writing before you decide.

What happens if I die soon after payments start?

With a life-only payout, payments stop at death. A cash refund, installment refund or period-certain option sends the unpaid balance or remaining payments to your beneficiary. Those options lower the monthly amount slightly, and we show you exactly how much.

Is my money exposed if the stock market falls?

Fixed and fixed indexed annuities do not invest your principal in the market. Fixed indexed contracts credit interest based on an index with a floor, often zero, so a down year earns nothing rather than losing value. The guarantees depend on the financial strength of the issuing carrier, which is why we include each carrier's rating in the comparison.

Can life insurance provide retirement income?

Yes, through policy loans or withdrawals from cash value in whole life or universal life coverage. Loans reduce the amount your beneficiary receives, and a policy that is borrowed too heavily can lapse and create a tax bill. Our Whole Life Insurance and Universal Life Insurance pages explain how cash value builds.

Do you manage stocks or mutual funds?

No. We work with insurance-based income: annuities and life insurance. If you have an investment advisor, keep them. We are glad to coordinate so the guaranteed income and your invested accounts each do their own job.
